“Being able to walk this journey with people to reinvent life in ways that are meaningful to them and build a rhythm that is uniquely theirs, is a great privilege.”
Mildred comes from a background in Sociology and has a life-long fascination in how the web of social life influences why we choose to do what we do. This perspective has guided her to develop a unique process to her health and fitness journey.
Ever since sustaining an ACL and meniscus injury in 2014, Mildred became increasingly attentive towards injuries, pain, rehabilitation and behaviour, as many around her were injured constantly. Mildred’s personal experience motivated her to seek out knowledge from various professionals, treatment and training systems to break out of the cycle of chronic pain and injury.
Mildred also draws inspiration from other specialists in the field to continually hone her skills and knowledge of assessment and coaching, as “a well-thought-out assessment is key to intelligent programming, which can restore comfortable movement and eventually improve our quality of life.”
She hopes to connect with those who relate to being trapped in this cycle of pain and yearn to discover a life outside of the fear and frustration surrounding injury.
Mostly being a useful human being and contributing meaningfully to society. In it I get to learn about others, myself and find meaning when these paths cross.
I suppose… fate and choices? I have a soft spot for building deeper physical & psychological connection with the inner self and I hope to be able to help others too, through various activities.
Consistency; build habits that help you become consistent at the basic blocks of health & fitness.
Variety; explore, train variously and try anything once, safely.
Get coached; another trained eye can guide and provide helpful knowledge which can be difficult to achieve on your own.
Play; have fun, enjoy the moment! Playfulness has been positively linked with well-being and life satisfaction, and counteracts stress.
Right now, it is structured around maintaining overall fitness and adding in some fun at the same time. Weekly gym training sessions and the occasional dabble in beach tennis, tennis, basketball or any sport of the moment I am curious about.
Christa Deguchi, a Judoka. I may not have any ties to Judo, however I connected with her story of struggle and depression as an athlete, to connect and balance the trinity – heart, body and technique. It’s not only about winning.
Sleep, lots of it. Take mental breaks. Spend time in nature. Spend time alone and also build connections with the people who rejuvenate you.
Two words. Fish Soup.
